Many clients prefer to add a decorative trim along the leading edge. This is a great way to enhance the drapery, and it offers a more custom finish!
We do offer trim application to finished panels, but this is only available for those able to pickup directly from our workroom (Greater Jackson, MS area).
Fabricut's commercial workroom packages each panel very carefully to ensure a safe delivery. We unfortunately are not able to repackage the drapes efficiently and ship them safely to you once the trim is added.
Any workroom or seamstress local to you can add a trim of your choice, but read our tips below for selecting the right trim for your panels prior to purchasing.
The overlap or leading edge of each panel is ~3.5" wide, so the drapery panels offered in our shop only allow for a trim that is ~3.25" wide or smaller.
Decorative trim is typically applied early in the sewing process and is stitched by hand or by machine to the face fabric of the drapery prior to adding the lining. The edges are then folded into the top and bottom hems, and the stitching is hidden underneath the lining.
Because the trim for these panels will be applied after the panels have already been completed, the trim should only be applied by hand stitching or using a fabric adhesive. A machine stitch would stitch through the face fabric and the lining of the panels which would poorly affect how the panels drape. A visible stitch on the back of the panels from the tape application is also unseemly for drapery.
Keep in mind when requesting trim be added that stitching the trim by hand will be much more labor intensive than using fabric adhesive, so this application will be more expensive. Most decorative trims can be applied using a fabric adhesive, but we recommend confirming this with your chosen workroom or seamstress prior to purchasing the trim of your choice.
